Motive strikes on a sammich

Post by Limbshot » November 4th, 2013, 3:41 pm

Well I had a surprise solo bowhunt Sunday morning as everyone else was too tired to head out. I decided to sit my favorite bow stand on the farm that overlooks one of our foodplots. A little before 8, I heard footsteps coming down the ridge to my right and looked over to see an 8 pointer walk into the old roadbed. He circled around downwind of the plot and stood there looking and scent checking the plot before he finally entered it. He was plowing through out wheat and as he turned to leave at 20 yards, I was drawn back and the Razortrick tipped ACC disappeared into his chest. He ran 50 yards and crashed hard. I know he is no giant, but I'm pretty excited about it. Been a few years since I used a buck tag, and I am having a blast with the new bow. Still very impressed with the set up. Three shots, three deer, and none have gove farther than 50 yards. Really impressed with the Razortrick heads so far. They fly incredible well and really put the deer down in a hurry!!! The pics were taken from where he was standing when I shot. If you look at the one pic, you can see my stand directly over my head. I also removed my orange for the pics as it messes up the color on cell phone cameras.

I appreciate the kill, but question the decision to kill that one.
All you thugs and ugly mugs dealing drugs and making noise,
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play

Yes, I know you do. Was a spur of the moment decision that I don't regret. I'll shoot mine, you shoot yours. :howdy:

Yes, you do. Otherwise, you wouldn't have typed the response you did. It's OK - I've killed worse and I've killed better, but if you are looking to challenge me, you might want to rethink. That last sentence of yours could easily be changed to "SAMCRO shoots his, and SAMCRO shoots yours".

I'm not challenging you at all, was merely a polite way of saying I don't give a chit what you think about what I shot, and I don't really give a chit about what you shoot. You shoot what you like, and I'll do that same, that way everybody is happy.

Yeah, the foodplots is one thing that we are getting pretty good at. We have another one about 150 yards to the west of this one that is twice the size of this one. They definitely seem to make a difference down there in the bottoms. We are starting to do some work up on top of our place hoping to add some much bigger plots up there, but it is SLOW going with just a 4-wheeler and pull behind tiller. It's very rocky, so we make two passes and toss out all the rocks then move on to the next row. If we can get those expanded like I am hoping, we will drastically improve our property.

LS, you are right on with the hard work it takes to put a food plot in especially in rocky soil. Having farm equipment makes that job easy for me to put plots in compared to the days when we used an old walk behind tiller. you should look into getting an old 8N Ford tractor and a disc. It is fairly easy to find one of those old tractors that has been redone. My first tractor was 51 Ford 8N and it worked great. You can also get a brush hog for them which can help keep the cedars and woody growth down. I see them all the time out by us.

What does something like that typicall run price-wise RB? I'd definitely be interested in something that would make prepping our top fields a little easier. I don't mind doing the work we are doing now, but easier is always better right?!?!

You can find them from about $1500 to about $4000. Under 2k they are probably someone worn looking. a really nice restored one around 4k. Below is a link to an ad I googled in Dexter Mo and it comes with a brush hog for a good price. The ad certainly looks good. Out in the country you can get them a little cheaper than in the city areas. I paid $2200 for mine with a brush hog. The tires were good, new brush hog and paint. It was a good little rig but I outgrew it on our place. Lot of times i see them in front of farm houses for sale. If I see one I'll let you know. You could also check Craigs list but be careful with that. You can also plow and disc with them. I can give you a few buying tips over the phone before you start looking. I bet your dad could find one in his area since he is local.

let me know if you have any questions.

LS, if you got one with a brush hog and a disc you will say how did we ever get along without it. Kind of like a garage door opener if you never had one. If you have gravel on your driveway there a 5' grading blade would be good too. When we first got this place there were a lot of small cedars in the field and the wife wanted them out. She handed me the hand clippers and said have at it. After two hours I had a pretty good pile of little trees but had only cut an area about the size of the average living room. The next week I bought my 8N with a brush hog and in under two hours the whole field was done. Now I have a big New Holland with 4 wheel drive, power steering and a front end loader. Get one, tractors are fun.
