Finally resized pics

Post by Limbshot » January 18th, 2018, 4:43 pm

Well I finally got around to resizing the pics of my youngest's first deer and my archery turkey. I also can't remember if I said or not, but I killed my first muzzleloader deer ever on January 30th. He's a deer I'd typically let walk, but I had always wanted to kill one with a ML and the misses was with me as well telling me to shoot it because we needed another deer ground up, so I pulled the trigger. 2017 turned out to be a pretty amazing year. I personally watched 9 turkeys and 4 deer die, plus Dad took his biggest ever and the misses got her first bow kill! Gonna be hard to top that!!!

Great pictures. Your family sure had a heck of a year in the woods. Congrats on the ml buck but I think you meant December 30 not January.

What kind of muzzleloader do you use? I'm curious because it seems like the modern ones are approaching the accuracy and distance of a centerfire rifle out to 100 yards.

:rotfl: Yes, I indeed meant Dec. 30th. Not sure how my brain got that far off track, but it seems to happen a lot these days.

TH, this fella was killed with a CVA, inline. Fantastic fun, easy to load and shoot. We haven't tested outside of 100 yards. This deer was killed just inside 30 yards and I can tell you the slug went right where I was holding at that distance. :)

Time to get ready for fishing. I have my first four trips set up for this year so far. All at least three days. The only unknown is how my shoulder will work casting.

I am ready too. Archery season has only been closed for two weeks and I'm already getting cabin fever! Hoping to chase some crappie this weekend if possible. Other than that, may start hitting the Gasconade here pretty soon once it settles back down a little.

Can hardly wait for fishing season. About out in the freezer so need to stock up. I hear you on cabin fever. About all I've done for two months is go to shoulder therapy. Can't do much else until I get this shoulder working right.

Shoulder therapy is one of the most challenging there is. I don't think most people realize how complex that joint truly is. Hope it continues to improve buddy. I hear you on fish. We are OUT for the first time in a long time. My wife let me know that is a problem, so I am going to try and hit the crappie hard late winter-spring and also hit the lake near us to try and load up on bluegills. Then once the rivers warm up, may go on some serious goggle eye trips to try and fill 'er up!!!

It's getting time for the early season walleye run up Truman Lake tributaries, so I am going to be looking into that after the next cold snap scheduled for Sunday.

Nice! I have to be honest, I am clueless when it comes to Walleye. I've caught 4 and they have all been during bass tournaments. My wife would love it if I could fill the freezer with those! That's her favorite fish.

I caught a 6 pound walleye on Truman last spring. It was way up in a creek cove. Have also caught a 4 pounder trolling cranks by the dam in the summer. Best eating fish in the lake.

A six pounder is a pretty good size; most of the ones I catch there are usually in the couple pound range but do get the occasional bigger one in the spring.

My Dad was fishing the Charger Bass Boat owners tourney with a friend of his quite a few years ago, and his buddy caught an 8.5 pounder!!!

If you want to catch some big walleye, ten pounds plus, go to Bull Shoals in February and fish with Buster Loving. Every year he catches some of the biggest walleye you'll ever see in Missouri. I have fished with him for spring whites and he knows where the fish are. Truman has some good eyes in it because not a lot of guys fish for them. They come in the creek coves in the early spring to spawn and then feed on spawning crappie. You want to have some real fun you should go snagging for spoonbill in the spring. We got some good ones last year from 65 hwy bridge down to Oar house. My son in law got his first and he was hooked.

RB, I know what you are saying about the walleye below Powersite. I love fishing that area when I can (used to spend a lot of time down there) but it is so hit and miss that with the long drive from the KC area I get more time in and consistent fishing at Truman. If I were retired, I would probably spend most of March and April down there.

I also spend time fishing below Hwy 65 at Warsaw; my uncle has a house just uphill from the Pepper's if you know where that is at so use the private boat ramp there.
