Kansas

Well Dad and I made our second annual trip to Kansas last weekend to try and do some head smacking. WE hunt just north of Wichita and the area has been suffering from an INSANE drought. Since September 1st they have had a total of 2 inches of rain. Well I am proud to say we helped them break the drought and it rained nearly the entire time we were there. That and an overabundance of jakes made the gobblers extremely hard to work. Every time we had a good thing going with a gobbler, jakes would come in and run them off. One of the guys we hunt with got a call from his Gramma to come shoot the turkeys that were destroying her wheat, so Saturday, we set up and had the same experience with jakes, but this time the group of jakes came in to our decoys and we had a group of 9 jakes strutting and gobbling like crazy. We had them inside of 20 yards for a couple minutes and I had enough. I lined up two heads (legal in Kansas) and filled both of my tags with one shot, which was a first for me. At one point, I literally could have killed 6 with one shot. They were so tightly packed in that it was difficult to just shoot two!!! Anyway, unfortunately, Pops wasn't able to fill a tag, but we had a fantastic time with great folks. I sure treasure the times he and I can spend in field together.

It was a pretty cool experience. My Dad did it last year and I got to do it this year. They were jakes, but man I'm glad I pulled the trigger. The Missouri birds are kicking my :arse:

I love whacking 2 in a single shot. I believe I have done it 3 or 4 times over there. Congrats!
