Slow walleye

Post by Hunter91 » August 5th, 2005, 6:47 pm

Went out yesterday to Stockton. That lake is getting low. Only caught a couple of short walleyes on leeches in about 22ft and a couple of the green fish. I would say it was slow for us. Think I will try for a new world record on Table Rock tomorrow Image

Howdy '91! I also tried for a new world record @ TR this weekend. i trolled cranks on lead, FL, and mono for about 4 hrs on Thursday, and only caught one small spot.
Sunday I donated 2 doz crawlers to the spots and 'gills before finally catching a 12" 'eye.
Not exactly what I was chasing, but a step in the right direction.
How did you fare?

No walleyes. Did the bottom bouncing thing and the trolling crankbaits. Caught about a dozen smallmouths and Kentuckies 12-15 inches. Lost one big fish trolling, never could get it up to the surface and one big catfish that straighten my hook out and left about 2 ft of slim on my line. Oh and 1- 2lb white bass.

What part of the lake did you fish?
I was up around Holiday Island, and fished my way back towards Eaglerock. I did have a "2 click" bite on the other rod while I was screwing around with the runt 'eye. I'm sure it was the record fish we were looking for. Image

Bullitt,

I normally fish with LB around the James/White river area up to Baxter. We have caught a few in that area. LB caught one a few weeks ago about 4.5lbs

There are lots of flats and humps in the upper end of the lake. I can fish flats anywhere from 5-25FOW. I mostly try to fish the inside channel breaks from 25-35FOW. Some of the best flats have trees on them, and with the current lake level, many are VERY near the surface. I went over a treetop the other day that had a prop ear stuck in it!
I havent' done much good trolling cranks lately. I've been catching more fish of all kinds on bouncer/crawlers. I need to get PD to go with me, as he loves the bluegill bite so much!!!
School will be starting soon, and that should make it much more pleasant to fish during the daytime.

I was trolling Sat, and some dipstick swung his skier within 30ft of the boat. The dude promptly fell off, right in front of my boat. I told the guy in the water that he might want to swim for it, because the treble hooks were coming! He gave me a strange look, then looked at the rods and started stroking!! People are idiots.
