Lanterns

Post by BornBad » August 2nd, 2004, 10:21 pm

I usually use battery powered ones, they don't get as hot.

I do think they attract more skeeters though.

The lighting of a gas lantern is alot better. More... nostalgic or somethin.

Depending on the situation I use both, I have a propane for exterior uses and a 12V for inside the tent.

Ever tried the Dietz lamps? They aren't as bright as the gas lanterns, but are a nice change and quiet. Run on kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid or lamp oil. They are pretty weather resistance as the wick is enclosed by a globe.

We bought a new one a year or so ago, and you just turn the knob and it lights. Magic I guess! Image

I like the gas lanterns. They are bright enough to put 20-30 feet from what you are doing. They will lite up a florscent bobber way out on the water and they give off CO2 which attracts misquitos. Put one 25ft on each side of your night fishing spot or campground and the skeeters will leave you alone.
