Walleye newcomer

Post by rloo10 » October 6th, 2005, 12:01 am

My family & I recently moved to Springfield.
I used to fish for sauger in the Mississippi with my Dad many many years ago but walleyes have always stumped me.
Anyone interested in showing a guy the ropes on how to fish for these at say Bull Shoals, stockton, & Pomme. I have a nice boat & fish for other fish but wanna be a walleye man. Anyone interested in giving some pointers? Help.
Oh...and thanks.

Welcome,

Most of the walleye guys left town. They are now holding hands at lake Stockton something or other dot com. They seem like a good bunch of guys and there are a couple of bass guys left that can probably help point you in the right direction.

Good luck, check your sensitivity at the door and hang around Image

Hey TrainRobber-

I mainly fish for walleyes on Truman, but know the other lakes you mentioned as well so if you have any questions ask. There is still some good information about walleye fishing in this forum if you do a search of the archived topics and wade through some of the BS.

OK, Truman stumps me. I can catch walleye in Stockton. I can catch walleye up north. But Truman seems like a walleyeless sea. What's the secret?

I wonder if you could provide us with some recipes for walleye.

I'm sure BB has some recipes.

I don't catch a lot of them at Truman but when I do they are of pretty good size (usually 16" or over). I consistently catch them each trip. It doesn't seem to matter if it is spring, summer, or fall.

I have found that certain locations will hold them, namely deep channel dropoffs near islands or the subsurface "humps". I manily troll for them using deep diving crankbaits.

I have also found that certain feeder streams will hold them in the springtime during the spawn.

Before Truman they came out of LOZ and went up the Osage in the Spring, maybe the Pomme, but I never saw any caught out of it. I wonder if they follow the historical migration?

Trainrobber,

I am fairly new to Missouri. I have been fishing for walleyes on Stockton, Mark Twain, Bull Shoals, and Norfork so far, and have found them to have good concentrations of walleyes.

It is safe to venture into the waters now. All should be will. I will send you a PM on the other board. Looking to see you again.
