Been finding about 10 pounds of hens a week, up until last week. Only found big old buggy ones, but there are some still out there. Found 2 three-pound beauties that were fresh today around an Oak right along a local hiking trail. One was growing halfway on the trail. Easy pickins.
Also found some very mature smooth chanterelles over the weekend, only 3 were still good.

Re: The hens are still flushing
Found a few fresh hens today on a southern facing slope. One was faded from the southern exposure but it wasn't buggy and hadn't even starting yellowing on the edges. Here is a pic of one that weighed about 8 lbs. The second pic is of the faded one. It weighed about 5 lbs. Never found them this late, but this Indian summer has made it a great fall for mushroom hunting.

Found some hens today..........in my freezer. Nice thing about hens is that you can freeze them without parboilling 'em and they thaw out practically like fresh.
