Start looking monday

Post by Swamp_Fox » April 1st, 2006, 7:47 pm

The woods just don't look green enough, but I'm going to check the early spots monday. With the warm winter and the warm rain there might be a few.

I am new at hunting Morrels. Can someone give me some tips such as the type of terrain they might be found?
I have been looking on line with few results.

Thanks.

I find all of mine near trees.

Edit: I've never eaten any I've found online. Image

We've been getting some good rains and warm weather in western MO, so things have really greened up quick here. I would think that people could start finding them here in the next week.

LG, early in the season try looking on south-facing hillsides and creek bottoms. Since the morels grow from mycellium on tree roots, you will find them in proximity to trees. Some people claim that certain trees have a greater potential for morels, such as dead elms. I really haven't found that to be the case myself.

By next week they should be poppin up. I'm definitely spending some time on Easter weekend looking for shrooms.

I went out yesterday on your advice, SF. You owe me gas money for 50 miles of driving.

Yesterday the tornado should have droped them in your pocket.

It needs to quit dippin' below 50 at night. We're losin' our daytime ground warmth on the cool / cold nights.

I had frost on my windows this morning, and wasn't expecting that.
