ROW - Smokey Bones BBQ

Post by CuppedAndCommitted » April 27th, 2006, 8:51 am

I realize this is another chain, but I recently had lunch at one of these locations, and felt moved (along with my bowels) to review it.

This is arguably one of the worst BBQ joints I had ever had the misfortune of dining at. If you find yourself having to dine at one of these establishments, I would recommend that you eat the ?plate?.

Now I am very particular about BBQ, and I am a purist when it comes to how the meat is prepared. Good BBQ should stand on its own. The flavor of the rub and smoke should accentuate the flavor of the meet, and cooked properly, should be tender without artificial means (ie. meat tenderizer, pressure cooking, ect.). That being said, I knew going into this place that there was a chance that it was ?factory? style BBQ, but the person that I was with wanted to try it, and I thought I would give it an honest try. I had a sampler plate of ?award winning? ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. It was awful. I asked our waiter what award they had won, and he looked at me with a doe-in-the-headlights look. The ribs were stringy and had poor flavor and were covered in crappy sauce. The brisket had no smoke ring and was very dry and tough. The pulled pork tasted more like your average pork roast.

The side dishes were no better.

The bright point of the meal was the ice tea.

The prices were comparable to most chain type BBQ joints, and the staff was very friendly and quick.

Thank god DMR re-supplied my stock of pecan this last weekend. I?m gonna have to ?Q? me some critter this weekend to get that taste outta my mouth.
McLintock, great party, but no whiskey. We go home.

Dayum !

Are they owned by the same folks that own Bandana's ? The worst ribs I ever choked down were from that " famous " sty.

Fire up the smoker, and set the world back on it's axis, Craig. Image

L.C.'s stomps all donkey in the b-b-q world. L.C.'s also happens to be one of the scariest looking places in the worst neighrborhood in K.C. But, it still would be worth the trip, if you just got their beans.

Eating L.C.'s will set you free.

Dave, I would agree. LC's is good "Q". Kansas City, as a general rule, has some of the best BBQ joints that I've been to, and most of them are in rough neighborhoods.
