BIG crappie

Post by hunting170 » May 27th, 2008, 9:04 am

and by big crappie I mean Illinois big crappie. An aquaintance of huntingATM`s caught a 4lb 8oz white crappie a few weeks ago. It is supposedly a new world record, at least that`s what locals are saying. He caught it out of a farm pond about five miles from our house. I can`t find a pic of it, on the www, anywhere. They had one in the newspaper here, but I didn`t think to try to scan it before I gave it to a crappie-fishing friend of mine.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

I don't know that it would be a world record, but that is a monster.

Do you have any dimensions on that thing? 20" or better?

That maybe a record white crappie, but the world record black crappie was caught here in central MO... in a farm pond in Fulton... and that fish ain't even close. If you want to see the current world record black crappie, it's now swimming in the fish tank at BPS here in Columbia. It was 5.02 lbs when it was caught in May of 2006. I'm not sure what it weighs now... but it is a big hump-backed bastard. Here's a link to the story...

The MO State Record white crappie is 4 lbs, 9 oz so it isn't a world record.

It does appear to be a IL State record white crappie (previous record of 4 lbs, 7 oz) from a farm pond in Morgan County (page 40 of the PDF below).

The world record white crappie is 5 lbs, 3 oz. from the State of Mississippi.

At one time, the world record white crappie came out of Enid Lake in MS. It was over 5 pounds. Can't remember exactly.
