Got out for a while

Post by Rafe Hollister » November 30th, 2009, 9:34 am

Went to a local CA on Friday. The 7 y.o. went with me. We had a good time and the dog got some exercise. Unfortunately, that's all we got. We didn't jump one rabbit in the 3 hours we were there and probably walked 3 or 4 miles. We saw a group of 3 hunters and 3 dogs and only heard one shot from them.

I walked some private ground in NE MO on Sunday during deer drives and pushed out two coveys of quail and 5 to 6 rabbits- I think we could have seen more if I would have kicked every brush pile.

While we did well on deer later that evening, I wish we would have been carrying shotguns instead of rifles that afternoon.

This brings back alot of memories Rafe. There are so few rabbits around here these days, that it`s just a shame. Red-tail hawks however, we have an abundance of. Wish we could have a season on them.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

That is no chit 170.

We had rabbits like a plague this summer, but something has been tearing the hell out of them. Owls and house cats most likely.

Tell me if you find something that works. My yard looks like the viet cong have dug in for the winter.

From what I`ve seen on TV the best way to get rid of those is with flame throwers, and hand grenades. Good luck Dave. Don`t forget to yell "Fire in the hole!!".

I really wasn't wanting to put that much effort into it, 170.

I'm still up for hearing more suggestions though.

We had a flamethrowing APC on our gunboat and it was cool to "light 'em up".

Yes, as for deer I covered the escape route while my brother intercepted and dropped does. It doesn't bother me much since I have already dropped several deer this season, and I got to watch him drop these deer through my scope's crosshairs.

I was more jazzed about seeing the quail, which have been scarce in that particular area.

Funny, that Viet Cong in the tunnel is carrying a Russian SKS rather than the Chinese made model.

I bumped into some quail down around Clinton the first weekend of the gun season, and was darn glad to see them too. I almost felt bad busting up the covey. They need all th help they can get.
