Floaters (or jelly fish) at Pomme

We saw something in the water at Pomme yesterday that we hadn't seen before. At first they appeared to be minature jelly fish. Ralph finally fished one out and it was clear with what appeared to be maybe an egg in the center, so we were guessing they're some kind of egg sac, but for what.
Some coves had thousands floating in the water.
A little help for the ignorant would be appreciated.

Gary, I've seen little Jelleyfish in Tablerock before. They are about the diameter of a penny. If you scoop one up in a clear glass with water, you can see it slowly start to sink and then it'll move and "swim" up high in the glass. I don't know if that's what you are seeing at Pomme or not but if it is, it's probably a sign of good, non-contaminated water. There was an article about these little guys in a past Missouri Conservation magazine. I'll see if I can find it and shoot you a copy....

Who woulda thunk it? Freshwater jellyfish right here in Missouri....the saltwater kind was common in the Gulf when I lived in Florida, and you made damned sure you didn't get mixed up with a Portugese Man-O-War....but those things were pretty big and had enough venom in the tentacles to kill a child or an older person. Glad to hear that their presence is an indication of healthy water. Pomme does seem to be pretty free of that green slimy stuff I've seen in Stockton and Bull Shoals.

Well thanks for the info. Never knew we had such critters around here.
I do know that in the coves where they appeared to be the heaviest concentration we caught no crappie.
But as we were fishing the coves that the wind was blowing into they all had atleast a few.
Sure was a site to see.

Tablerock, Ive only seen those things in the fall of the year....You have to just about have the sun at just the right angle to make them visible.....They sure are interesting.....

Not sure about the jelly fish but Two Tall is an expert on floaters..... Anything to add to this two tall ?
