Any truth to this?

Post by powerdive » July 14th, 2004, 5:03 pm

A cat horned me good over the weekend, and I was hurting. After I plunked the fish back in the water, my partner told me I should have rubbed some belly slime into the wound. Said it contains a kind of antidote.

Luckily I had some antiseptic in my first aid kit, which took care of it pretty quickly. But, for future days, is this true? Thanks!

Cat slime will negate the pain and sweeling after your spined. It wont do away with the pain completely because of whats already in the bloodstream but it will knock in down to a minor pain.
Something else that works well is 'stingkill' swabs for bee's, wasps ect. Get em at walmart or your local pharmacy, they work real well. But cat slime works in a pinch, just be sure to work it in the wound.
Either of these will work better then an antiseptic will.

I aint been horned in a long time, it's better to avoid that.

If horned by a catfish, or even if you're spined by a bluegill, bass, or crappie, the best thing to do is throw the fish to the ground and stomp the shit out of it. You'll still have the cut, but you'll feel better.

Meat tenderizer works and it works on other stings, if you have it handy. Image
