Congratulations Coyotewhacker on your moderator nomination.

Thanks one and all....it was a hard fought election, and lots of people worked very hard to see it through to the end, but now that the mandate has been given, the pathway ahead is clearly defined. As soon as I figure out what that is, you will be the next to know. One thing is for certain:
the local coyote population should be very cautious now that CW has a new Ruger M77 All Weather stainless steel rifle in 7MM Rem Mag. Although it's challenging and fun to call them in close, with the Super Seven, distance is not a real factor any more. The .223 has a practical max range of probably 200 to 225 yards. The 7 mag adds another 300 to that. Hitting a coyote at those ranges is another matter!

Yeah,....well that kid don't count. He can figure ballistics and bullet drop at extreme ranges, and still has the eyes to see stuff way out there. Best damned long range shot I have ever seen... Image

OK, CW will bite....just what constitutes a "long" shot at a small target?????
BTW, Nick...my son in law brought me a new Ruger M77 All Weather in 7mm Rem Mag. The barrel is a bit skinny, but it seems to be a shooter. As soon as I can make that factory trigger go away, it will be a real long range rifle. Coyotes around here had better get real nervous. Oh yeah, I'm on your old man's case to help me out with a slight bronze bird problem next month. I think we agreed that he would ask you to assist.

What consistutues a long shot at a small target? I don't have a definition but typcially one will know it when the shot presents itself.... Image New rifle? Nice! As you know, the skinniness or "fatness" of a barrel has nothing at all to do with accuracy- its the bedding into the stock that really affects accuracy. The only think a "fat" barrel would do is cool off faster (or... simply not get hot as quickly), and possibly dampen some of the shot's vibrations. If the rifle's a shooter, THE RIFLE'S A SHOOTER, period! I can hear them 'yotes screamin their disdain for the 7Mag already Image

And you can bet, if I can get off work, I would love to assist with your bird problem....hehe... Hey, are there still about 5 MILLION of them on your farm?? Image

Not quite...only about 4.75 million now. Do a little arm twisting and maybe we can get the numbers down to a manageable level.....looking forward to it.If the old guy with the receding hairline and advancing waistline can't spring loose, I'm sure we can work around that problem. Oh wait...that sounds a lot like me.... Image

That's his story, and he's stickin' to it! Ya know those Bow Flex ads on tv with the 50 year old grannie in a little tiny blue bikini....fine looking gal. OK, now think about the young, good looking guy about half her age out at the pool waiting for something to fall out of the top....well, that ain't what TR looks like. It's more like the old farts on the "one dollar for the first month of coverage" insurance ads for gullible senior citizens. Try to remember the old guy whining , "Can I get affordable insurance at MY age, and with MY health?,,,snivel, snivel, whine....except for TR being maybe two or three years younger than the old dude, they could pass for identical twins.
