Haven't been but fishing at Mark Twain has been tough with the dropping water level and the current muddy look.

the wife and i have been catchin a few crappies in the Jackson co. lakes. the eggs look like they're almost ready, should be pretty good next week if the cold weekend doesn't send'em back into the channels. hit the brush piles if ya go!

there i did my part, how are the rest of ya doin? are they movin' up, or still a couple weeks away?

how are the truman guys doing? water temp is getting there, so are the fish moving up any, or is the droping water keeping them lock-jawed?

Wolfie, that's on Lake of the Ozarks. I was on Truman today, and I didn't do well. They've dropped the lake about 3 feet since Saturday, and my areas on the Grand were still muddy. If I were trying Truman, I'd try to find some clearer water. Or I'd go below the dam on Lake of the Ozarks. They're running water everyday according to the Corps website.

Truman should start picking up, the Corp has backed the water off to 7900 CFS from 33000+ and then shows 4500 CFS for the next couple of days. Unfortunately I won't be going until the 23rd (why do I have to work for a living?)

Well, it didn't pick up much Friday. I fished for several hours and all I could catch were LM bass. Course, that got to be too much fun for me to concentrate on crappie. I ended up pulling my boat out of Truman and going below the dam. However, by then they stopped flowing water, and many were packing up and leaving. I managed to scratch out a few decent crappie before I has to get home for supper.

Sunday the wife and i went out again, only 11 crapies, no real biggies. awfully brisk, wind was wrong, and a very light bite. wife caught a 17.5" lm bass, full of eggs and it was tense there for a moment on the 4lb line!

last night we went out and caught 31 in about 1hour 10min at max! very fast bite, still has a few short takes and missed strikes. the crappie are hitting minnows and nothin else. right up on docks and brush 2-5ft of water. some are trying to get on the nests, others holding back still.

now i fish a jig 95% of the time for crappies, but the minnow is killing the jig! not worth even trying, unless its a jig tipped with a minnow.

in the last 95-100 fish we've caught only about 5 or less have been on a jig only. bright pink jighead (no jig) with a minnow through the lips under a slip float was the hot set up last night. caught a 13.5" male! don't see many of them! Image

Wed 14th picked up 31 more crappie, again hotpink jighead under a slip float, 2-4 feet deep. some are up in 2' of water(shallow side of brush piles), but still catching some in deeper 4-5ft water, (the deep side of the brush piles).

smaller fish is the only story. from April 2-10th we were catching good sized crappies, 10-14", but fewer fish only 15-20 per trip. now catching in the 30's per trip, but mostly 9" fish.

didn't go Thurs night, 25+ mph wind! we will have to bear throuh it topnight and get some, going to truman over the weekend.

anyone have any good excuses for the little lady outfishing the captain of the boat? i keep having to mess with the t-motor, anchor, and tye up her break-offs, and everytime i start doin the maintanence she catches more fish! getting pretty hard to take, but atleast we're fillin up the freezer. i need some more excuses! it's starting to look really bad, on Wed i maybe caught 8-10 fish, she got the rest (21-23!) its hard on the ego fella's Image Image

Leave her home, that'll teach her. Unless she won't let you go. Image

It's time for 'HER' to learn how to run the boat. Let her drive, run the T-Motor, tie off her own breakoffs ect. Tell her it's in case something happens to you while on the lake. Keep her occupied with the boat and you get to catch the fish!...lol
