Lets talk about a hypothetical situation, let?s suppose I was working on my Psy Degree (doctorate in Psychology) and for my thesis I chose ?Psychological ramifications of the internet.? Now the best way to do this is to find a place on the Internet with a subject matter that interests me anyway and use them for the experiment. I enjoy hunting and target shooting; ok do a search of hunting forums. I look for a couple of them one that you all refer to as the ?touchy feely? and the other this place.
How to go about interacting with both groups without letting what is happening? Ok work both sides of the fence in both and see how they react. I think at this point I would start to push a little and see what happens, maybe a little controversy backup one person against another and so on while the other site gets nothing but responses to posts mixed with the occasional helpful tip.
At this point it would be good to throw in a typing error or two for the ?English Professor ? (Mocraig) to jump all over with his ?literary expertise?. In do so making me just another one of the guys so I can sit back and watch how the internet has allowed a group of people to be studied without knowing it. I also get to see how you react not only to me but each other, document my observations and complete my thesis. I would have found among other things.
1. The perceived separated indifference to each other the Internet affords you all leading to number 2 and 3.
2. The different responses to a call for help, both good and bad.
3. The verbal abuses of various users because of their physical traits
4. And finally, the loss of users to the site because of the perceived elements.
Hypothetically of course!
