Yeller shrooms...

Post by Duck Me Runnin » April 14th, 2006, 11:37 am

About 4 lbs of yellers fell to the hands of OF and myself today. Every decent patch was around a large sycamore.

I ain't talkin' punkass shrooms, some fat, fresh, 4" - 6" specimens. Image Image

Nice finds, The time to go is now.
I have found about 10 pounds in the last 2 days along the big muddy. Mainly 2-5 inch yellows. Some were starting to dry out but many were fresh despite the lack of rain for the last 5 days.

Denny always gets lost when the grass gets taller than his head. Image

Brian,

Nope, didn't see Denny. Didn't see all that many shrooms either. We were gone from there before 4:00. Exactly what I said, is what we picked. It's pretty danm dry out there. Image

Rich,

darn, you mean there's two of them?

My spots are too dry. I was hoping we would get some of this rain but the latest doppler says NO.

Any more of this 80+ degree weather and it will be a bust around here.

DMR- i looked at what he had yesterday and 2/3's of his pick was pretty dried out.
He said the same thing about it being really dry now.

Me and the youngins went up in the hills yesterday afternoon and found enough for bout 3 meals.

Some were dry but most were in pretty good shape yet.
The ground is damp in the hills but not moist enough for mushrooms to grow.

It would be my oppinion from what i saw yesterday that the mushroom season is pretty much done around here.

Don't know about up north though-When ya goin up there?

We found a couple around Truman, but they were so dry that we just threw them back on the ground. It aint just dry, it's dusty. Image

With some rain, we might get some 'shrooms popping, but I'm not planning any more excursions in the mid part of the state unless/until we get some rain.

Hoping for a trip north in the next couple of weekends....unless it turns into desert up there too.

Headed N. on the 28th. I been keepin' an eye on that area, and they're wetter then we are for sure.

I just hope they're not done before I get there.

Yep, its about over here in Mid-MO. Unless we get some rain. Finding less these last days but they are still up and boy are they big. I only found 40 today but all had 4-8 inch caps. Nice sandwich-sized ones. It's been a great year so far. Maybe some rain and cooler weather will keep the season going. Good luck to everyone. Happy hunting.

My spots aren't producing this year.
Found 3 today. They were fresh from last nights rain.
The woods look about right but there is no rain in the forcast for the next week or so.
I think the heat last week and the dry weather put the kabosh on them.

I looked last night in my usually consistent producing spots. Only found one small mroel, and it had already dried up. It probably came up last Saturday. We need rain quick to even make it worth going again, and I don't think it's going to happen.
