Lag Time After Rain

Post by Tigerhaze » April 24th, 2006, 12:02 pm

Question for Micus-

How long after a good rain would you expect to see morels develop? I'm assuming it's a day or two but never knew for sure. Also, does low overnight temps extend this period? Thanks.

TH - The boy and I are going out tonight and probably tomorrow night. What we find then will determine whether we spend any more time in the Central MO woods looking for fungus. Hopefully with the warm temps the rain will bring at least a few to the surface.

If they are ready they will be up within 24 hours. A good soakere and they can be up much faster.

I was planning to go after the good rains we have had the last two nights, but wanted to make a longer trip after work one of these evenings and need to make it count the way fuel prices are right now. I'll probably go somewhere local this evening and make a longer trip tomorrow evening. Thanks for the info.

Picked up a few last night in a "morel barometer" type of spot. Going to check another place this evening.

I checked a local spot yesterday evening and didn't find any....the grass is so tall it is hard to see even if there are any. I am going today after work to my timbered property to check spots I know produce every year.

Lemme know if it does....I'll get up there next weekend and pick up all the old, dried up ones that you left! Image Generally, we don't go north till the first weekend of May anyway...but then generally it's not 80'+ for days in a row in April either!

Same here ODF....I went to my property where I know the individual locations that produce every year. Even my late spots were empty. I've pretty much given up this year unless I head to my spots up north. Sounds like DMR has the right idea.

Yep...talked to a family friend last night that lives east of Trenton. He said they are finding the small greys in fair numbers and starting to find the medium yellows, but none of the big whites yet. I can't get up there this weekend, but am planning a trip north next weekend to clean up whatever hasn't been picked.
