1/8th oz crappie jig fished on light tackle around moored barges will usualy land you pleanty of skipjack for bait. Works better then shad. Leave the frozen shad for the silly tourists, invest in a cast net and gather fresh.
Several guys have been doing well on the MO with hotdogs catching big blues. Paticularly the chicken flavoured hotdogs. One gent lost two big noodles useing hot dogs when they pulled a 'Jaws' routine and did'nt come back up...lol
