No poopoo sherlock. Now, do me this favor. Drive down to Cooper's Landing this evening there off of Route K. Ifn' you cross Persche Creek a couple hundred yards north of Coopers, let me know. You do remember the bridge don't you? You cross it right before you get to the campground. Fish probably knows the name of the creek of which I am referring to.

Just google it and look for yourself. I call it a feeder creek because it ain't that darn deep. I don't know the name of it. The wingdike off of that creek is where I caught that 24# flathead.

OK, you're right... I forgot about that lil creek. So if'n you was there, why wouldn't ya jus walk down to Cooper's? That couldn't have been more'n a couple hundred yards... if that??!

We were too busy drinking beer and trying to figure out what was wrong with the motor. We were just happy to be there. Also, the creek was running enough that we had to stay on the trolling motor just to keep from being right back in no-mans land. I'll never forget that evening. It was cool and late September. It was an awesome night to be on the river. Makes me sick to think of not having a boat right now to enjoy such a time.

Maybe you could rent a room in the Chateau if you're a little short on cash.

It's not that Dave. But, that might just work for funding my other activities. I just didn't use the boat enough really and truly. I did more bankfishing than boatfishing. If I lived closer to Truman, I would never have sold it. But, I do miss having one for those thrice a year escapades. Really and truly, the Chateau isn't that big.

The Chateau is 4500 square feet finished I believe. Maybe 4400. Luckily, I have another 1000-1500 square feet of unfinished storage space in the basement. The deck is pretty cool though. It is like 16x35 and looks right down into the Sanctuary.

Dayum, I don't know where you get isn't that big. By my standards that is a friggin mansion. You really must be a gazillionaire.

Yeah, forget you could play full court basket ball in there, with seating for 3,000. It has a cozey feel to it. Image

I tell you PS, I will not be without a boat any longer. I had a jon boat from the time I was 19, and now have had the fish'n'ski for 2 years. I'd be lost without a boat or two. They are well worth the money, if you've got the time to use them.

Also, I hope you're ready for the trash talk about shooting chit behind your house. It's harassment really, but it's worth it too. Makes scouting a breeze. Image

LR: I told the wife before we started every bill would be paid off before we started on this house. I owe zero dollars on everything including the 60-some acres we own. I did put $600 on my credit card yesterday for new tires. That about killed me to do that. If I can't pay cash, I generally don't buy it.

Dave, one of these days I'll have a boat. You can rest assured of that one. When it is that I get tired of hunting, I'm gonna start fishing pretty hard again. Also, last Friday afternoon, a decent 8 pointer walked across my yard. Also, I saw 7 nice deer right down from the Sanctuary a couple of weeks back. 6 of those had 8 or more points with three of them being shooters with a bow.

At least you're seeing them. I ain't seen chit behind me for a month.

Got a few jakes that poke their heads out couple times a week, but nothing like we had last year.

They have to be in there, but this hot dry summer has them doing things a bit different.

I did see a whopper just east of Lee's Summit, Sunday. He was on the edge of a bean field 250yds or so away from the road. It was one of those "jaw droppers" that caught my eye while going 70mph down the hiway, at 3pm in the afternoon. Big freakin' deer, and not 1/4 mile from a housing development.

PS, there will come a time in your outdoor career that you will do more fishing than hunting. It happens to all of us.

I think all of my deer are across the road. There's some steep hollows with fallen rock and water in the bottoms, maybe a spring in there somewhere too. It's got to be cooler than the jungle behind my house.

I imagine a good'n will stake his claim once the temps cool off, and they start breaking up from bachelor groups.
