small quail

Post by Brander » September 29th, 2007, 11:17 pm

I was up at the farm today doing some brush hogging and I saw 2 coveys of young quail, 1 covey was about the size of chickadees and could barely fly. The other covey looked like mice running around on the ground, way too small to fly. Seems to be a very late hatch, I just hope they are big enough to handle the cold weather.

If I were them I`d be more worried about the whirling blades on that brush hog, than the cold weather.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

At least you've got some. There are some guys that hunt them across the road, and they hunt them like they want them all to be extinct. Freakin morons. Image

I saw a covey bushhogging the other day too. First covey I've seen in four or five years on my place. Looked to be twelve or fifteen of them.
Wishing I could quit my job, and hunt and fish all day long !!!!

Those young quail are better eatin' than the old, tough ones.
