Flying fox squirrel

Post by hunting170 » November 26th, 2008, 11:32 am

Sitting in my stand yesterday morning, and I hear a couple of squirrels start chattering, and wrestling around in a nest above my head. My stand is about 15' off the ground, and this nest is every bit of 30' above me. It starts getting serious, and leaves, and small limbs start falling around me. I look up just in time to see a fat fox squirrel 10 feet above me, and hurtling to the ground at warp speed. It instantly reminded me of the rodent in the movie "Ice Age". Had I been quick enough I could have reached out, and caught him. He hit the ground with the same thud as a head shot one during squirrel season. He just laid there for a few seconds, then he stood on his hind legs, looked around, and wandered off like nothing had happened. If I hadn`t been in stealth mode, I woud have laughed my ass off.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

Squirrels provide me hours of entertainment in the stand- I might like them a little better if they weren't so quick to try and bust you (bark) when you have to move.
