Hey RB
Re: Hey RB
Thanks LS. The kids are chomping at the bit to go as this is their first fish n float and hopefully as long as the old man here can do it won't be their last. Trying to start another tradition with the next generation. Have almost spent as much refreshing my small river tackle box as the whole trip will cost but it will be worth it. Hope to bring home some good goggle eye for a fry. We'll release all the smallies regardless of keeper size. I'll put something up here when we get back to civilization.

Re: Hey RB
I think it is awesome that you are getting the young uns involved in river fishing. What a great way to spend a day with family. We will likely be taking my 2 oldest out for their first real trip this year. Really looking forward to it. Much like yourself, the goggle eye come home for dinner, and the bass released to fight another day. Cheers to you on that!!!

Re: Hey RB
LS, I grew up fishing rivers and its a great place to teach kids. Goggle eye are like a swimming rib eye if they meet the size limit or bigger. No problem lettin em swim in the grease. This is our first annual and the four grandsons going range from 6 to 10. We will have 3 generations on the trip and everyone is excited. The boys are looking forward to the nightly campfire and the scary stories of the hook man after a long day on the river.

Man, that sounds like a great time. I'd say the Piney will not disappoint! Throw those little cranks around any timber, especially the root systems, and you all should catch your share of goggle eye!!! Those kids are great ages for sure. My oldest are 7 and 9 and they really eat that stuff up!!!

Yep, it will be a goodun. We are starting to train these boys in the fine skills of the outdoors. Only manfood allowed, burgers, brats, cold bean from the can and chips. campfire in 90 degree weather, stayin up way past thier bedtime and learing some new skills that will be useful in later years. Your boys sound just right for the learning and impressing. We'll also be teaching them how to catch fish with soft plastics and mini cranks. We'll be sure to hit the root wads and under over hanging branches.
Re: Hey RB
It rained on the only day we had to float and didn't quit until 4pm. got on the water at 5 for a 5 mile float and the water was stained from the rain. did manage to catch some nice goggle eye and a few smallies on small cranks and road runners. still had a great time until we dumped the canoe 100yds from the ramp. the kids all had a good time and the Big Piney hook man story at the campfire monday night had them screaming and too afraid to sleep.

Re: Hey RB
Crap, sorry to hear about the rain buddy. Glad you were able to catch a few anyway. Hope nobody was injured and nothing was lost on the canoe dump, that always makes for an adventure!

Re: Hey RB
LS, couple of bumps and bruises for the dumpees but no gear lost. Most of it was tied in the boat. Still had a good time on the float and did catch some scrappy fish. We will probably head back down there at some point in the future.

Sounds like you still had a good time- I'll be hitting the fishing in that area in a couple of weeks.
