Sooner Showdown

Post by Tigerhaze » October 21st, 2010, 9:52 am

Well, Mizzou's biggest test of the year is Saturday evening against the #1 ranked Sooners. It should be a madhouse at Faurot Field considering that it is also Homecoming.

I will be at the game, although not the greatest seat. I will try to get some good pictures of the action (on and off the field). :jmplgh:

I do have an interesting side story- my cousin is the general manager of two hotels in Columbia. He told me that Kirk Herbstreit's agent called there last Wednesday looking for a room. (For those that don't know, Kirk Herbstreit is one of the co-anchors of ESPN's College GameDay with Lee Corso and Chris Fowler).

Anyhow rooms had been long sold out and since GameDay waited until the last minute, Kirk was out of luck at least at my cousin's hotels. I guess Lee had better conneections than Kirk because he didn't call. :rotfl:

You should have been there in person- it was something else. I got some pretty good pictures of the post-game aftermath, including the students hauling the goalpost uprights out of the stadium to Harpo's.

I will post them up this evening after I get home from work.

Curse you, Tigerhaze! I stayed up all night waiting for you to post your pictures and they never showed up.

I had to work until midnight last night- so ended up being a little lower on the priority list. I only have to work until 8 or 9 pm tonight, so will be there by late tonight.

RB, after the Hoedowns you should be used to me being a little late :rotfl:

Triton, I still have to worry about that word :jmplgh:

I ended up working to near midnight again last night- but I knew I wouldn't hear the end of it if I didn't post something so here is one of the better moments:

Well, here is the story and associated pics. I got to Columbia late afternoon last Saturday so didn't have time to tailgate beforehand. I ended up getting to Faurot Field about 45 minutes before the game and had to park south on Stadium Blvd past the practice fields and down the hill near Flat Branch but not quite to Forum. Then a hike up the hill to the stadium. I got in just prior to kickoff but it was so crowded that I could only see the opening kickoff return for TD on the video screen. My tickets were GA so I started right at the center of the North Hill but later in the game I ended up on the northwest side of the hill. I stayed near the top because it was so crowded but at the end was able to walk down to the wall near the north end zone bleachers. Despite how it looked on TV, it just lightly drizzled at much of the game was dry. There was about a 30 minute period where there was a light to medium rain, but even that wasn't bad, unlike the NU game I went to last year  It also helped that it was very warm so even if you got wet it wasn't bad.

There wasn't many OU fans- the ones that were there were in the top corners of the grandstands- we gave them a little bit of crap at times. :jmplgh: Also I on't know how well you can see it, but in the third to last photo look at the front of the guys t-shirts. :rotfl:

At the end you can see that the students rushing the field before the final play was over, the cannon shot, and then the students carried out both uprights from the north goalpost- the last picture was of the Harpo's area downtown which is where they took the uprights.

It was defnitely worth the last minute tickets.

TH, I was there too. We were sitting on the north 30yd line 11 rows up on the west side (Section N, row 11 seats 5 and 6). Quite the experience wasn't it?!

Just took JDog to the Quarterback luncheon on Monday. It was a good time... but to be honest I was expecting a little more... something... after the big win. It seemed like they (coaches and players that spoke) were already over it and focused on Nebraska. I guess that's a good thing though.

I would love to be at the Nebraska game. Actually, my brother offered me his ticket and fan-bus pass... but it's halloween weekend, and I have kids, so...
I was drunk the day my momma got outta prison.
