Who needs a rifle?

Post by SAMCRO » November 20th, 2013, 2:54 pm

PS has killed one that he's not publically sharing, as have others. So I'll put something up that might be halfway interesting. Killed the one I was after on opening day of rifle season with my bow. Neighbor was shooting a couple with his gun, guys down the way were railing on them, too. It's not my first bow kill during rifle season, but it is always kind of enjoyable to take one that way. Not the bull of the woods, but not half bad, either.

Yeah, I asked whether I should kill him, and maybe I should have listened to Tony. However, he was dead before I read the response.

All you thugs and ugly mugs dealing drugs and making noise,
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play

SC, he's a good deer and most would have taken him. Doubt if he would have made it through season in your neighborhood.

You don't get it yet. EVERY deer makes it through. I have three years worth of pictures of any buck halfway decent. This one I have two years worth. There is exactly one buck I am cerain was killed by others, although I don't know that, and it wasn't one worth shooting.

Nobody much hunts these deer. I don't think they spend as much time as you think at the river.

I taped him poorly at 137". I found later that I didn't give him enough credit on the tine length, although I'm not off by much. I had to talk myself into shooting him. I mean, full draw pin on the chest decision.

I'm happy with it, but it would have been a stud next year in the 150's.

Nice deer.

From what I've seen of it, PS's deer is a nice one too.

Then things have changed in that are. My cousin had a farm on the bluff off of Towers and they killed everything in sight off that place. Couple of jerks even shot some of their goats one year. I guess all the subdivisions filled the place up with city slickers. No matter though, its still a good deer.

That is a great deer SAMCRO. And, while you would like to think that deer would put on 15" of bone next year, the truth is that he may not do so as well. Good kill.

The deer I whacked FD 195#. Was a solid 4.5 year old 9-pointer. One of those barrel chested deer like the one SAMCRO killed a few years back. The pictures don't do the rack justice really. I taped him at 131" gross and 128.5" net P&Y (good mass). Got him the day before rifle season. Haven't hunted since.

One thing about this bow season, I really learned a lot about my farm. I hunted for the first time November 1. Hunted an area that I typically don't bother with. That will change. I saw 30 different bucks from a stand, half of which were at least 2.5 year old deer.

PS, you going to post the pic? Sounds like a good deer. I think you should stop referring to your place as a farm, its a deer factory. Probably one of the best situated spots for deer I have ever seen.
