At it again

Post by Limbshot » July 16th, 2018, 7:58 am

Saturday was a great day. Floated a stretch we don't hit very frequently and man is the river LOW! We had our best trip ever on that stretch and caught a boatload of fish, especially 13-15 inchers. The misses landed a couple of solid fish and I was fortunate to land our biggest two for the day, a 17 3/4 inch beauty and a 19 inch monster!!!Image

Very nice fish. Do you ever keep any of them? That looks like a great stretch of water. Does it run along your farm? My next trip isn't until next month when we hit Taney for 6 days. The wife says I can't keep any more fish because the freezer is too full. Good problem to have.

Definitely nice when the freezer is TOO full! This is a different stretch than what we normally fish. Our normal stretch does run by the farm, but this is down stream. Due to the river level we decided to hit this stretch because it would mean less canoe dragging. We have made this float a few times, but the fishing has never been as good as it was Saturday. My Dad always says low water just pushes all the fish closer together, maybe he is right. :rotfl: We are heading back down this weekend but will likely only be doing some wade fishing. Still may get into some good ones though with the river being low.

Wade fishing in the summer is the best. Haven't done that for a while due to a bum knee. Maybe after its fixed. Way more fun than wearing waders.

Yes sir. When the temps are in the 90's or higher, there is no more comfortable way to fish!

Especially on a hot day. Even if you're floating it's always nice to pull up on the gravel and wade and hole or two to cool off. Some of my best fish have been caught that way.

Went fishing on a major trib of Truman Lake Sunday evening and caught the river just as it was coming up from dam releases upstream- got several nice channels, blues and flatheads in the 5 to 10 pound range.

Gary, you been doing any crappie fishing? We hammered them at the end of June. Three guys, three limits in three hours.

I agree RB. I do some of my best fishing when we stop and get out, but then again it is also a lot easier when you don't have to worry about the boat positioning and such, which is what I do a large portion of the day.

That is awesome TH. I couldn't even tell you the last time I went catfishing. Sounds like you guys got into some good eating sized feesh.

LS, Truman has some great catfishing. You can catch them of all sizes drifting shad which is available at several are bait shops if you don't have a throw net. I like to jug fish the flats down there for catfish. Hard to keep up with ten jugs they bite so fast sometimes.

Oh I know Truman is quite the catfishery. Just haven't done it in awhile. Jug fishing is my favorite as well. I caught the biggest catfish of my life on Truman during a bass tourney. 30 pound flathead on a jig out of a flooded cedar tree. For a moment, I thought we had big bass locked up...:)

I own riverfront property on a major trib to Truman Lake; me and a friend that lives near there park and walk down a trail to a rock bluff overt the river and tightline with rod and reel, although I have also run trotlines on that river.

I sometimes do summertime fishing for crappie on Truman at the Hwy 7 bridge piers but hadn't done so this year- when I have gone there has been more boat traffic than I like to do so (I am not as lucky as you RB to fish any day of the week).

Gary, I never fish weekends anymore. In two trips there crappie fishing we bagged three man limits two times. End of May and end of June. Didn't fish for strippers even once which is rare for me.

The retired life... :rotfl: Heading down to the farm for the weekend. Will likely at least be doing some wade fishing. Hope to have more pictures to share next week.
